What would you do to find the one that got away?
Romily Parker is a woman on a mission. On the last Saturday before Christmas, (shortly after disastrously declaring her undying love for her best friend, Charlie) Romily has a sudden, brief encounter with a gorgeous stranger who might, just possibly, be the man of her dreams. It only takes two small words – ‘Hello, beautiful’ – and one, heart-stopping kiss to make up her mind: she has to find him again.
Giving herself a deadline of the following Christmas Eve, Romily commits to spending a year searching for the stranger – a decision which divides her family and friends.
I really enjoyed Fairytale of New York and Welcome to my World but It Started With A Kiss has this magical feeling about it, throughout the book the bitter singleton that is me (and Bridget Jones of course) started to become less cynical and believe that maybe love at first sight does exist.
This book not only has you believing in love at first sight but you know that saying ‘if its meant to be, it will be’ well that theory is definitely put to the test.
Romily Parker has just faced one of the biggest rejections of her life after telling her best friend Charlie that she loves him, with the rejection fresh in her mind she tries to focus on christmas shopping and in her distracted state walks straight into a stall full of cuddly toys and knocks them to the floor. As Romily tries tearily to start to clear up the mess, she is offered help by a handsome stranger. This leads to him telling her she is beautiful and them sharing the briefest of kisses. But then he is gone and Romily is left with nothing more than his image in her head and the feel of his lips on hers.
What was his name?
With the help of her Uncle Dudley and Auntie Mags, Romily sets herself a quest: she has a year to find her mystery man and sets about on a year of new discoveries.
There are so many lovely characters in this book, with my favourite’s being Romily, Wren, Dudley and Mags.
Even though the moment was only shared by two people, there are so many people wanting Romily’s quest to be a success.
There is a great feeling of love when you read the extremes people go to, to help her find Mr ?
Such as Dudley with his manic researching which can be quite funny and at times you can really feel how much he loves his niece and wants her to be happy.
Whilst Dudley does his research, Auntie Mags makes sure that every emotion Romily is feeling is treated with a cake to help. Every emotion calls for a different cake. I love this theory and there is something magical in the fact that Mags knows what cake to give Romily as soon as she see’s her.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it’s a romantic tale of self discovery and even for the most cynical amongst us you are left with that feeling that maybe just maybe, love at first sight really does exist.
This is a book that I will read again and again because sometimes you need to be reminded that you should follow you heart, you never know what you will learn about yourself in the process.
Read this book with a slice of Lemon and Lime Meringue and have a double dose of happiness.
