Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job; loyal friends; his dream home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life, he believes that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite Travis’s attempts to be friendly, she seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him. But something compels Travis to get to know his new neighbour. His persistent efforts lead them both to make tough decisions, the consequences of which neither could have foreseen. The Choice confronts us with that most heart-wrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?
I’ve really come to love Nicholas Sparks books, there is always an element of romance and intrigue within the pages and the same can be said for The Choice.
The Choice is a dual timeline novel that essentially is split into two parts 1996 and 2007. The story follows characters Travis and Gabby who become neighbours in 1996.
Travis is extremely open and honest, his caring side is evident not just with people but the animals that come into his life through his work as a vet. He is content with his life and has a close knit circle of friends but when he meets Gabby it is as if a missing piece of the puzzle has arrived.
Gabby wants to be settled, she strives for the family dream and believes she has already found it in Kevin.
She can at times come across as uptight but when you discover her upbringing you can understand why. She is a very driven person and shows her loving side when she is with her dog.
Despite Travis and Gabby being our main protagonists, Stephanie Travis’s sister is by far my favourite character. She has a way with people and always seems to know exactly what to say.
A really good read that consumed me and one which I devoured in a day!
