Dinner With A Vampire by Abigail Gibbs

The addictive, enthralling debut by online sensation Abigail Gibbs. The sexiest romance you’ll read this year.
One moment can change your life forever…
For Violet Lee, a chance encounter on a darkened street draws her into a world beyond her wildest imagining’s, a timeless place of vast elegance and immeasurable wealth – of beautiful mansions and lavish parties – where a decadent group of friends live for pleasure alone. A place from which there is no escape… no matter how hard Violet tries.
Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.
Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price.

Violet is just your average 17 year old girl waiting around Trafalgar Square one night for her friends when she witnesses the gruesome murders of 30 men. Being the only witness to the crime she is kidnapped by the murderers and held captive in their home.

But what if the murders she witnessed weren’t easy to explain, what if instead of weapons, the murderers had used their teeth. Fangs to be more precise and it’s with that realisation that Violet learns she has just been imprisoned by VAMPIRES.

Whilst dealing with this new discovery and facing a life away from family. Violet starts to get to know her captors and whilst she still can’t come to terms with the brutal murders of Trafalgar Square she is starting to see them in a different light.

One in particular catches Violets attention Prince Kaspar; the stubborn, argumentative and angry Prince. The one vampire that Violet cannot pull herself away from.
With their apparent hate for each other, Violet is left wondering why did he keep her alive?

As they get to know each other, their feelings grow & they are drawn into a heart wrenching passion neither has felt before. But with secrets hidden on both sides, they are about to face tests that only fate can foresee!

Now as with any vampire book there are going to be comparisons with Twilight, so let’s get that out the way… Imagine Twilight at its darkest point and throw in some 50 shades now you have ‘Dinner With a Vampire’

With the book being an insight into both Violet and Kaspar’s thoughts. Its refreshing to see both of their opinions on the events and emotions that are unfolding.

Violet is a great feisty character who tries hard not to show her fears. She stands her ground on her opinions and won’t let anyone grind her down. She suffers throughout the book and its only when she’s really alone that we discover how scared she is. Even though she cries in front of others she always keeps that feisty spirit!

At first I didn’t like Kaspar, he is angry and egotistical, but as I started to see through his eyes I started to like him. I suppose you could say as Violet sees more in him, so does the reader.

Two characters that will never grow on me are Ilta Crimson and Valerian Crimson. I don’t want to ruin it for you but they do help provide some of the darkest chapters in the book.

As with all books, I always end up having a favourite character who just flits in and out and in this book its Eaglen. In my mind he looks like Gandolf LOTR. There is just something about this character and his ever knowing stare that made me like him.

Its not just the intensity of Violet and Kaspar’s relationship that comes across. But the hatred that some of the vampires feel towards the human girl. Almost every page is packed with emotion.

I will go as far as saying this is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’s got it all, murder, intrigue, romance and sex.

With a combination like that you can’t go wrong.

The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it’s left me wanting more. And with the next instalment not being released until August next year there’s a bit of a wait!

I however am really looking forward to discovering other dimensions as we journey further through the imagination of Abigail Gibbs.
