13: Children’s Gift Guide

Luv and Lifestyle: A Gift Guide for Children.

As an aunty to an eight year old niece I am clued up on what she would like for Christmas but this is the first year I have been with my boyfriend at Christmas and that means I now have two nephews to buy for. One who is nearly 10 and another nearly 5.

I compiled this children’s gift guide using the website Wicked Uncle, a website that is designed to help with the art of gift giving, you can narrow the items down by gender, age and category.

The website is easy to navigate around and parcels are shipped daily, with the standard postage of £2.95 normally arriving with 2-3 days.

ABOUT WICKED UNCLE:

CHILDREN CAN SEEM A COMPLETE MYSTERY.  WHAT THEY EAT IS HARD ENOUGH TO WORK OUT, LET ALONE WHAT INTERESTING TOYS THEY MIGHT WANT FOR THEIR BIRTHDAY OR FOR CHRISTMAS.  AND IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO REMEMBER BIRTHDAYS.

WE HAVE SCOURED THE WORLD TO FIND A REALLY USEFUL SELECTION OF FUN, UNUSUAL AND DIFFERENT PRESENTS FOR CHILDREN.  WE TEST EVERY POTENTIAL PRESENT BEFORE IT GOES ON OUR WEBSITE – WE BUILD THE ROBOT KITS, PAINT THE FAIRIES, DOODLE WITH THE PENS, PLAY THE GAMES AND YES, WE EVEN WEAR THE T-SHIRT! WE CAN GIFTWRAP YOUR PRESENTS, SEND THEM DIRECT WITH A HANDWRITTEN BIRTHDAY OR XMAS CARD AND EVEN SEND YOU A BIRTHDAY REMINDER EVERY YEAR.

IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THAT YOU GET IT WRONG AND YOU END UP BUYING SOMETHING THAT HE OR SHE ALREADY HAS OR REALLY DOESN’T LIKE, THEN RETURN THE UNUSED PRESENT TO US AND WE WILL CREDIT YOU SO YOU CAN REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING ELSE.

THE WICKED UNCLE TEAM

WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF SMALL, POINTY-EARED ELVES BASED IN A LARGE WAREHOUSE IN THE  DEEP COUNTRYSIDE SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW NEAR ELVEDEN (REALLY!) WITH A MISSION TO PROVIDE BRILLIANT TOYS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS. WE HAVE AN OFFICE WITH SOME TOKEN PEOPLE IN IT IN LONDON. THE COMPANY WAS FOUNDED BY MIKE O’SHEA, A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF THE MULTINATIONAL S. CLAUS TOY CORPORATION TO DO COOL STUFF ALL YEAR ROUND AND HAVE FUN. WE DO LOTS OF RESEARCH ON TOYS AND MANY OF THEM ARE EXTENSIVELY TESTED BY REAL CHILDREN LED BY PATRICK X O’SHEA, CHIEF TOY TESTER.

THE TEAM HAS RECENTLY BEEN EXPANDED AND WE NOT ONLY HAVE HARVEY THE DOG, BUT ALSO ALEX, THE WICKED UNCLE CAT.

STOP PRESS: WE HAVE JUST HIRED UNCLE CHRISTMAS, CLOSE ASSOCIATE AND COOLER, YOUNGER BROTHER OF FATHER CHRISTMAS. LAPLAND IS IN SHOCK AS UNCLE C JOINS THE WICKED UNCLE CORPORATION.

I sat down with my laptop and proceeded to scroll through Wicked Uncle in search of presents for the three children in my life.

Also includes a step-by-step instruction leaflet with colour illustrations. Fun creative kit that makes distinctive and original jewellery.

My niece is very creative and when it comes to things she can make we always find these are presents she gets the most excited about. Over the years she has made friendship bracelets and loom bracelets but I have never seen a Shamballa set before, I think she will have hours of enjoying making bracelets for herself and friends.

PRESENTS FOR MY OLDEST NEPHEW:

HORRIBLE HISTORIES – THE BIG FAT CHRISTMAS BOOK £12.99A Horrible Histories version of Christmas with all the nasty bits left in – brilliant!

This hugely entertaining bumper hardback is stuffed full of strangely interesting facts and gruesome tales from the 12 days of Christmas. From pantos full of bad jokes, to foul food, weird christmas puddings and curious festive customs, Rattus guides you through with the usual one-liners – it’s a cracker! Learn about silly santas, spooks and spirits, gore and games and even how to get rid of carol singers. Full of dreadful jokes, rotten recipes and even a Christmas quiz to cheer up the family Scrooge – Bah, humbug!

My nephew adores the Horrible Histories series so i Know that this will be a hit and the fact that it is christmas themed adds a great seasonal treat.

VILE VILLAINS BRAINBOX – HORRIBLE HISTORIES £10.95

Fun memory game introducing some of the vilest villains that have ever lived.

Each picture card covers a villain – it may be Attila the Hun, Ivan the Terrible or Guy Fawkes. What were they (in)famous for? Who ate the hearts of their sons for dinner? Who claimed to be the ‘Sun God’? The object of the game is to study a card for 10 seconds and then answer a question based on the roll of a die. Developed with the Horrible Histories team, this game is fabulous foul fun!

Keeping with the Horrible Histories theme, I know he will love this game that the whole family can get involved with.

T4 TRANSFORMING SOLAR ROBOT £15.95

Build your very own little robots with this great beginners’ introduction to solar powertechnology.

No batteries, glue or screws required for assembly, instead you build the kit with easy to connect pieces. Each robotic design comes with active movements and a safe mechanical gearbox. The robot features walking legs and moving wheels, the T-Rex and Rhino beetle have walking legs and opening jaws, while the Drill vehicle has a turning drill with moving wheels. Fun way to learn about the possibilities that solar energy can provide.

This really interested me, as not only does it sounds like a fun toy but I really like that it will help teach about solar energy.

RACING ZOMBIES – WIND UP & GO! £6.99

Wind up the walking dead zombies, release them and watch them go!

This truly gruesome pack has two blood splattered zombie racers, with a rubbery texture for that authentic flesh-like feel. Wind them up, put them on a flat surface and watch them race to the finishing post – a tasty human brain, yum! Play at home, school or even at the dinner table for tasteless entertainment. Zombie apocalypse fun – ready..set..runnn!

I really like that this will allow the boys to play together and interact as they race the zombies.

PRESENTS FOR MY YOUNGEST NEPHEW:

MAGIC PICTURE MAKER – SPIRAL ART & MORE £14.95Three activities in one cool machine, spiral art, dial-a-pattern and mystery pictures.

This clever ‘machine’ has has three different ways to create art, holding each masterpiece in place. Make classic Spiral Art with the art ring and seven drawing gears. Design with Dial-a-Pattern template, turning the knob to complete the picture. Best of all, trace one of the six magic stencils to reveal a mystery picture – you don’t know what it is until you’ve finished drawing it! Comes with easy to follow instructions, marker pen and 10 sheets of paper – fun and sure to inspire.

As my youngest nephew is really into drawing and creating works of art, I thought this would be a great item for him. I think toys like this are timeless…. I myself remember having a toy like this as a child.

GLO SHOOTING STARS £4.95

Make the bedroom ceiling really fun with a a shower of luminous shooting stars.

This collection of stars, shooting stars and planets come with peelable sticky pads. Fix them to ceiling and walls, turn out the lights and revel in their display as they glow in the dark. Create your own patterns and dream up your own far, far away galaxies with the 50 piece set made up of stars and planets. Great for encouraging an interest in stars and space – the final frontier.

Being a little unsure of the dark I thought these would be a great addition to his room and help him feel more settled when he goes to bed at night.

CHATBACK CHIMP £17.95

An adorable plush monkey that will repeat everything you say in his high-pitched voice.

This sociable little chap always says ‘Hello’ when you switch him on, as he’s very polite of course. Activated via a light motion sensor, talk to him for up to six seconds and he will repeat what you say back in his funny voice. He will doze off after two minutes of silence and wakes up when reactivated by light or movement. He speaks any language (!) and is always ready to engage in endless repetitive dialogue, happily agreeing with everything you say!

A cheeky monkey for my cheeky money, I love the idea of this monkey and the fact that he has sleep mode is a big plus!

ZOMBIE POPPER – SHOOT HIS BRAINS OUT! £7.99

This Zombie can literally shoot his brains out – put a small foam ball in his head andsqueeze to shoot.

This undead monster is air powered so the harder you squeeze him, the further the six soft foam brain balls will go. See how far you can make the brains fly, they can go over 20ft. It can be used both indoors and outdoors but don’t aim at other living creatures – you wouldn’t want to infect them with zombie brains! The best foam shooter for the walking dead – gruesome Zombie fun.

I like this for the novelty value and i know that my nephew will get lots of enjoyment out of watching the zombies brain fly into the air.

I had so much fun shopping for the children in the family and if i am honest I even spotted some bits that I wouldn’t mind getting myself.

What great ideas! My cousins are 5 and 10 and I have no idea what to buy for them! I always just end up buying the 5 year old clothes because I think they’re so adorable, but tbh she would probably prefer toys haha.
