A time for giving… cancer care parcels

When my dad got ill I would’ve done anything to help him. I remember him undergoing a chemotherapy clinical trial and suffering with mouth ulcers, chapped lips, damaged vocal cords… the list of side effects goes on. I witnessed him in pain and it broke my heart. If I could’ve bought something to help bring him some comfort I would’ve jumped at the chance. Which is why today I want to tell you about a company that has created a range of care parcels for cancer patients.

Cancer Care Parcel is a company that was founded by Dr Shara Cohen. Dr Cohen was herself diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.

After experiencing first hand the awkwardness that sometimes comes with talking about  cancer with friends and family, Dr Cohen set up Cancer Care Parcel which enables adults and children with cancer to take some of the worries away. And bring some calm back into their lives. Cancer Care Parcel is also an ideal gift, to let people with cancer know that you are thinking of them.

Having gone through treatment, Dr Cohen understands the needs of people with cancer. Parcels are created following a consultation with the advisory board which consists of cancer patients and survivors.

Cancer care Parcel offers the following parcels:

The All-Purpose Cancer Present For Adults

The Comfort For Chemotherapy Gift Hamper

A Luxury Breast Cancer Gift For Women

Cancer Comfort Gift Hamper: On Diagnosis, Convalescing or After Surgery

The Deluxe Male Cancer Gift Hamper

The Women’s Ultimate Cancer Gift Parcel

The Childrens Christmas Sack For Kids With Cancer

An Essential Childhood Cancer Present: Any Diagnosis, Any Stage

The Kids Pink Parcel For Any Child With Cancer (Who Likes Pink!)

Childhood Cancer Gift Box: The Little Monkey Mighty Big Hamper

About the parcels

Each care parcel is packed full of thoughtful items that a cancer patient will find some comfort in. From blankets to colouring books the boxes are packed with items to help both body and mind with what it is going through.

When choosing a parcel you can narrow the options down via:

  • age
  • gender
  • treatment type
  • and stage.

The website is easy to navigate around and offers the chance to add gift messaging. The company also offers a 100% money back guarantee. As well as promising items will be despatched within 24 hours (outside of the Christmas period).

When my dad first got diagnosed with kidney cancer he told us that we were to talk about it, that it wasn’t going to be the C word and it wasn’t going to define him,  even to the very end he kept to this. But we discovered that as much as we would discuss cancer and make it a none taboo subject others couldn’t. That is why I know that these care parcels are something that are needed, there are people who want to acknowledge cancer and help, but they don’t know how and this is great way for them to do so!

For the purpose of this post I was offered a care parcel. I was gifted two of the smaller care parcels.

These boxes were photographed  from the outside along with the contents sheet (all other images have been taken from the official website).

This is because the boxes I received have now been delivered to the oncology department that my dad was treated by..

A chemotherapy care box was handed to the ward and  a comfort box was given to the out patients department for them to gift to someone this Christmas.
