I am still in search of the perfect LBD that works with my current body shape. So imagine my horror when I hear that another wardrobe staple has been declared …
The Maxi Dress
At just under 5ft4 I’ve always avoided long dresses/skirts. I suppose the fear was that they would make me look shorter or frumpy. And if I’m being completely honest the hate I feel for my arms often leads me to put cardigans on with dresses and the idea of a cardigan and a maxi dress terrifies me. Would it be a fashion faux pas?
A couple of weeks ago Boohoo challenged me to find my perfect maxi dress. I scrolled through hundreds of dresses in many different styles.
I discovered racer back ones, wrap ones and dresses that will carry you from day to night.
I lusted after several styles but couldn’t bring myself to order them believing they would either be too clingy, too bold or show too much flesh.
That was until I saw the….
Noelle Off The Shoulder Shirred Ditsy Maxi Dress
100% Polyester. Flat Measurement of Garment: Shoulder To Hem 85cm/33.5″, Retailing at £25
The first thing I loved about this dress was the print, I find ditsy prints so pretty. However, it was definitely the off the shoulder detailing that won it for me.
The dress flows from the waist down and offers two slits to either side of the skirt allowing for a little leg to be shown. I personally love how this dress moves with me.
During the day
During the day I would style it up with some pink pumps to bring out the floral detailing within the dress. I would also add in a gorgeous day bag and pretty in pink aviators.
Pink Satin Platform Trainers £15
Ella Tassel Detail Day Bag £20
Coloured Lens Aviator Sunglasses £6
Out at night
For an evening look I would swap the trainers for espadrille sandals, the day bag for a pretty pink clutch and then add in a layered necklace to compliment the décolletage.
Again I’ve opted for pink accessories to bring out the colours within the dress.
Flatform Espadrille Sandals £25
Suedette & Bar Clutch £10
Ring Chain Layered Necklace £5
This dress has shown me that there really are maxi dresses out there for all shapes and sizes.
